I see now what has happened. That article in the Dundee Courier was quoted more or less verbatim from the Montrose, Arbroath and Brechin Review and Forfar and Kincardineshire Advertiser of 20 April 1849.

The funny thing is that it rings a bell with me. I am absolutely sure I have read that report before but I can't for the life of me remember why.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

May be you looked at it for me ;)  I ended up paying for another sub to look for records and this article.
So it certainly shows my man was still in and around Angus and Perthshire areas, he would of just turned 19 the month before this accident. And married a year later.

Such a great map.  Here I was thinking it was in Dundee it's self, so that was really helpful.

I have just about exhausted all my avenues with William.  Different name spellings, even just looked for the name William born 1830.  There was a theory of a D' in front of Lyall, that didn't pan out either.

Ah, yes, that's it. https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=806713

Another time, please put in a link to previous threads, to save people going over the same ground again. Or better still just continue the original thread :)
