Ralph MAY, Born Hayle
« on: Friday 01 March 19 21:02 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I wonder if someone can help resolve my dilemma please.

The convict records for Ralph MAY in 1852/1853 state he was born in 1842 in Hayle, Cornwall, and his father was John MAY, a labourer living in Hayle in 1853.   Despite extensive research I cannot find anyone meeting those details, except if the birth year is cited as 1838 and he then appears in the 1841 Census at Phillack, adjacent to Hayle.  Sadly, this is the only "non-convict" reference I can find.   Did Ralph MAY understate his age as 11 years, the figure quoted in his convict records??

Any information or suggestions, especially regarding his whereabouts after 17/05/1856 (when he was released from Parkhurst Prison), would be more than welcome.

Thank you,

BAC3

Thank you for your posts which both suggest Ralph MAY understated his age.

I shall now run with that suggestion and, hopefully, complete a full picture of him.

For the moment,
