« on: Friday 01 March 19 22:59 GMT (UK) »
Hello all,
I have found a marriage in 1629 Wedmore, Som registers for a  Georgii Seviar and would appreciate it
if someone could  decipher, please.

I'm given to understand its Georgii Seviar to Elizabethae Hippsley 16-4-1629
An image is attached.

It’s definitely not “Hippsley” ribbo. Not enough letters for one thing, and the first letter is not an ‘H’
I think her name may be Gay.
Compare the first letter with the first letter of ‘Georgius’

If you look at the marriage below it, the same small word is at the end.
I think it may be the date - possibly the 6th (ot 7th).
No doubt the Latin scholars will know.
Possibly April? as the next month is May on the clip. (Not all parish registers have events in every month).

This is a transcription of the actual letters.

Georgius Seavier duxit in uxorem Elizabetham Gay viih (or vith)

By the way, it’s not a good idea not to underline an entry you are seeking clarification for,  - the red line goes over some of the descenders of the letters, making it more difficut to be sure of them.

Thanks Goldie,

The point you make about underlinging is accepted. I made that some time ago and only yesterday thought  I would get some deciphering done.

Hopefully there will be some Latin Scholars around although what you say seems very accurate.

The small word at the end is:  vid = vid(uam) = widow

So she may have been Hippsley prior to her marriage with Mr Gay.
