Hamber?
« on: Sunday 14 August 05 13:32 BST (UK) »
Hi.
Hamber [Derbys] is quoted in the 1841 and 1861 censuses as being the birth place of my gggrandfather.  I have checked Multimap, etc. but can find no trace of this place.

Any suggestions would be most welcome.  Many thanks. Lilianna

Hi Lilianna

Would you settle for Amber?  The Amber Valley, including Ambergate, is certainly in Derbyshire.

Welcome to Rootschat, by the way  ;D

Regards

Angela
Any census information included in this post is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk
Especially looking for - Sealey, Rogers, Cannings, Box, Sheppard in Wiltshire; Virgin, Slade, Abbott, Saint, Harper, Silverthorn in Somerset; and Virgin, Tarr, Beer in Devon

And most especially the origins of William Cannings,  a Baptist, born abt 1791 in Broughton Gifford, Wiltshire

Hi Angela.
I think this seems to be the most likely place.  Many thanks for your efforts. Regards. Lilianna :)
