Edward Loftus
« on: Tuesday 05 March 19 16:40 GMT (UK) »
I have an edward loftus in my tree born 2 Jan 1892 in Dublin. Married a Teresa Farrell  19 april 1915 in Keady C. Armagh.

He joined Royal Irlsh Fus. in 1915 and was sent to gallapoli 7 Aug 1915.

he was discharged 21 March 1919 and his first child was born in Keady 30 Oct 1920.

I think he moved to England after this as i can find no further trace of him in Ireland. He worked as a Tailor before the war and went to England to become a bespoke tailor. he has three more children that i know of Edward, Mary and another girl. James died in Manchester and Edward died in Liverpool so i don't know if either of these areas are related. Edward and his family are all buried in Keady.
Draperstown: Trowlan, Quinn, Convery, McGuigan, McKenna, Griffin, Sergeant, Hamilton.
Keady: Duffy, Loftus.

thanks Rosie are there are online resources that i can see more detail behind these records. I'm used to searching the irish records and use 3 or 4 different sites that between them normally give me what im looking for.

The only way of seeing those birth details is to buy the certificates.

If the family were in England in 1939 you should be able to see some details on the 1939 register providing they are no longer living.

I know from the other thread about Edward Loftus that Teresa was aged around 21 at her marriage to Edward in 1915 (she was 17 on 1911 Irish census). She would have been too old to have been mother of the child born 1948.
You could try looking for baptisms. Lancashire Online Parish Clerks (aka LANOPC) is a free volunteer site with new additions every month. Manchester & Lancashire Family History Society has indexed some Manchester registers. Both websites have a list of churches. There's also FreeReg, another volunteer site.
