Baptisms in Lettermore
« on: Friday 08 March 19 21:19 GMT (UK) »
I have been doing some research for a family who emigrated from Lettermore to the United States in the 1880s. I have located Civil Registrations (RD Oughterard) for six siblings, ranging from 1870 to 1881. I am aware that there were two other possible children born during this period but cannot find Civil records for them....possibly not registered. I am looking in particular for a record, birth/baptism of one of two missing children.

I can only locate two corresponding Baptisms in the parish of Lettermullin, one in 1874, the other in 1876. There are two Microfilms covering this period for Lettermullin, each having a different set of entries. I have also searched Baptismal records for Kilgerrill, Killoscobe, Killosolan and Kilmoylan but to no avail. All suggestions welcome.

Do you mean you have found two baptisms for the missing children in Lettermullin rather than Lettermore?

Lettermore  is the island in Lettermullin Parish...  https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/1070

Not a clue where Kilgerrill, Killoscobe, Killosolan and Kilmoylan are or why they are even mentioned!   ;D

I had thought that Marcello had two baptisms with the same family names but in two different townlands  :-\

Killosolan
https://www.google.com/maps/place/Killosolan,+Co.+Galway/@53.4668386,-8.4517775,10z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x485c12e411cd5d0f:0x134d04828954637b!8m2!3d53.4667316!4d-8.4332127

over other side of county so in another Parish and Reg District.

So it looks like 2 were born at some date and others either there or other place before or after they were in Lettermullin

so the others might be Killosolan area Registration District :    Mountbellew

Sorry, I seem to have caused some confusion here!

The family, according to the six Civil Birth Registrations that I found were living on the island of Lettermore in the areas of Slate or "Cremina" (Crimminagh), RD Oughterard. As Hallmark wrote, Lettermore baptisms were recorded in the parish of Lettermullin. From family records in the United States, there were two more children born during the period 1870 to 1881 of which I can find no record, making it eight children born in Ireland.

Out of  a total of eight children, I have only been able to find two baptismal records in the parish of Lettermullin, both corresponding to Civil Births that I found. I have gone through the two films for Lettermullin on www.nli.ie covering this period, all of which are quite legible.

As I was unable to find any other records on the Lettermullin microfilms, I looked up other parishes in West Galway hence the other list. I had also checked Rosmuc, Carraroe, Kilannin and Kilcummin.

I wondered if anybody else has come up with a similar problem for baptismal records on Lettermore island?
