This is a likely entry for this christening

ame   James Adams
Residence Place   Nantwich, Cheshire, England
Gender   Male
Christening Date1844
Christening Date (Original)   08 AUG 1844
Christening Place NANTWICH, CHESHIRE, ENGLAND
Father's Name   Mark Adams
Mother's Name   Elizabeth
ttps://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NJMF-VS9

Mother's maiden name should show on his birth registration on the index here www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/default.asp

If you haven't used this before, click on 'Search the GRO historical birth and death indexes and order Certificates/PDFs Online' and sign on. YOu have exact details for what you are searching for so should be straightforward to find (I am not home at present so don't have my p/w etc). The index entry should include mother's maiden name.

Did you see my reply #7? This should at least help in trying to find Elizabeth's surname.

Alma, this looks to be James' birth details from what has been mentioned:

James Adams
Nantwich
Vol 19 pg 156
3rd Qrt 1844

Monica Thanks Monica, I already have that cert. from Nantwich but still no trace of his Father's Birth.

A search for Mark Adams on Scotland's People doesn't produce any results. Closest is a Mark Adam born in 1811 in Newton; parents are John and Margaret. There are plenty of William Adams, but not with the correct parents. I did find a William Adam whose father is Marke Adam but as he was born in 1627 he is obviously not correct.

The Parish Record of the Baptism actually says this, Monica:

James twin son of Mark and Elizabeth Adams. Abode is given as Nantwich Union Workhouse Nantwich from Glasgow.Father's occupation is given as writer.Baptism 8 Aug 1844 - twin called Charles.

MMN for James and Charles is given as Adams.

Does this indicate lookiing at Glasgow for Mark and William?

I should have said that Newton is an Edinburgh parish, although this doesn't rule out a subsequent move to Glasgow. By writer is this equivalent to the Scottish term, indicating that he was a lawyer?
