Manley, Newport, George (one of 4 brothers/2 sisters circa 1850)
« on: Monday 18 March 19 16:54 GMT (UK) »
Hi All,
I am looking for some names of a great grandfathers family that I am stuck on.
My late dad didnt know much of his background past his father TBH so all I know is his Grandfather was one of 6 children in Newport. 2 sisters, 4 brothers.
Possibly a sister called Mary (married a Tom Watts) and he was called George Manley, born 1850's, married in 1875 to Susan Phillips.
any help appreciated.
Regs,
S

Welcome to rootschat.  What information did his marriage to Susan give for his father

You can use the GRO index to search for children of Manley /Phillips

Hi,
Thank you for the welcome.
What you found is perfect, it shows my great aunti and Uncles that died in 1891 of Diptheria too.

I am actually looking for Georges Siblings names, I have all the childrens details (my late dads aunties and uncles) and done quite well finding some of the partners details etc but its Great Grandads family I struggle with.
I would love to find out his parents names and try to break through the 1700's if possible.
from what you have found shows that George came from Devon so I may have been looking in the wrong area!
Regs,
S

the only way you will get further back is to buy a copy of the George's marriage certificate to confirm his father's name & occupation. There doesn't seem to be a birth registration for a George Manley in the right area - Barnstaple - at the right time.
