Many thanks for all the quick and helpful responses. It looks possible that Leah was born to Charlotte Flitter before she married Frederick Johnson. I have the certificate for her marriage to Joseph Ranscombe and her father's name is given as Frederick Flitter. (Maybe that was what she told the vicar!). I wonder if there is any record of Leah's birth?
Incidentally Joseph R is described as a widower, so I'm off to look for a previous marriage.

Brilliant work. Especially avm228. I replied earlier before I saw the last few posts. That seems to clarify Leah pretty well. It's not easy with such a variety of versions of the surname.
