Catherine Maher - looking for a death or marriage
« on: Monday 25 March 19 11:39 GMT (UK) »
Could SKS help me with a marriage and/or death for Catherine Maher.

1900 US census shows her 7/12 (7 months old, I imagine), born October 1899, living with parents Edward and Nora, and a brother, Edward, born 1895, in Hamilton, Cincinnati.

Nora dies in 1904. By the 1910 census, father Edward is living with another son, Stephen, but Catherine and and Edward seem to be in St Joseph Orphan Asylum, Cincinnati.

Family search have another child born to the couple in 1897, L Marie (it’s transcribed as L) but there doesn’t seem to be any further sign of her - so possibly died young.

An online ancestry tree has Catherine dying in Queens, New York, but no date.

I am also struggling to find a death for father Edward, I have him up to the 1920 census (still living with son Stephen), birth dates vary from 1865 - 1867, and he was born in Ireland. And what happened to L Marie?

Many thanks
Lisa

This cemetery in Cincinnati has a Norah Maher, Stephen J. Maher (died 2 Feb. 1949), Edward A. Maher (died 24 Sep. 1936), and Edward Maher (died 13 Jun. 1933) all buried in the same section/lot.

This looks like Stephen's death record - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X6LR-BX7  Was your Nora nee Kennelly?

Perhaps this is the elder Edward's death certificate - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-XXN7-35M?i=2061&cc=1307272

I can't see the full obit, but I can see enough of Stephen's obit that he was listed as brother of Mrs. Kathryn O'Rourke of Dayton, Ohio.

Perhaps this is the elder Edward's death certificate - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-XXN7-35M?i=2061&cc=1307272

the certificate shows the same date of death and cemetery as the father of the family group of four in the same plot in St Joseph's.
