All, Thanks for your quick replies. After reading the Banffshire Journal and General Advertiser article from 24 February 1857, I can confirm that this Isabella Simpson is my gg-grandmother and her husband, George Chalmers.
I'm saddened to hear about this bad situation but can now understand why my great-grandfather, John Wright, born 28 Nov 1850, Marnoch was living with another family at an early age. He was the 1st child of Isabella Simpson and John Wright, born 22 Sep 1832, Banff (this couple never married and he was their only child together).
My g-grandfather eventually moved to Newcastle-upon-Tyne and became a Police Constable before immigrating to the USA. Maybe he became a police constable to make amends for his mother's behavior. Fortunately, my gg-grandmother's behavior did not carry forward in future generations.
