Thankyou everyone for your replies.

So margaret Duncan sounds like his sister but on the 1871 it says Mary M Duncan. Could it be a possibility that her middle name mrgaret?

Have just viewed the marriage for Margaret Muir to William Duncan 1864
Parents names for Margaret...... father James Muir farm servant
Mother Ann Muir maiden name Stewart ( deceased )
Death for Ann Muir other name Stewart 1856 age 36 Perth Landward

I would say there  is a very strong possibility this is Roberts parents also

From the original, I think her name has been written in error as Mary. Sometimes Marg. can be transcribed in error as Mary. In this case it has been written up as Mary as there are other examples on the page. The middle initial of M is likely for Muir.

Yes Monica looked at the original and the name appears to be spread out quite a bit ..your probably right M for Muir
