2) age shown as 53?  Child at 52 or 53 ?

What child? Very confusing without the child's name and their birth registration in 1863 in Victoria?

I can't find a child registered to Mary Ann and Samuel Evans in 1863 in Victoria at all and that is in the Victorian government records.

only information found on daughter Lillian Ann,born 1862 Wangaratta died 9mths. Buried 6th April 1863 Wangaratta Cemetery Church of England. No 1 plot 478. Mother Mary Ann buried 28th November 1863 Wangaratta Cemetery Church of England No1 plot 478. Husband/father Samuel also buried 9th March 1881 Wangaratta Cemetery Church of England No1 plot 478c.
I have visited the cemetery & was accompanied to their burial location by a staff member who used both the cemetery layout map & the logged record of their burials for plot identification. There is no headstone in situ. Paul.

The death certificate which can be downloaded after payment, will show the following-
Name
Date
Death place
Age
Occupation
Cause of death
Parents' names
Spouse names
Marriage details
Chns names
No of chn

Birthplace

A few of these items are on the indexation, but the full details are really needed through the purchase.

Now, I would say that if Mary was the mother of an infant child, this would be known to the informant who gave the details for the death registration, and therefore, the child will be listed with her other children.

It is clear from the news item posted above by wivenhoe that Samuel and Mary Ann were in Wangaratta a few months before Mary Ann's death death so one assumes the very young infant girl was there too and a part of the family.

"Adopted" or "fostered " children are usually not shown as issue of the deceased.
