I would also think that ‘lawful’ indicates that the parents were married - a legitimate birth.

The parish is Glasgow St Alphonsus. The abbreviations aren't next to all entries and look like they've been added after the event (slightly different handwriting). The final column has mostly the same name in it which I presume to be the priest. There are two columns before this, one for each of the godparents/sponsors.

I wondered if it meant 'present' or 'presented by'.

I also err on the side of lawful being 'married'. There are only a few gaps in that column where, perhaps, the priest was being tactful and not putting 'unmarried'.

All the RC baptisms i have (and that’s quite a few) all give the mother’s maiden name which is brilliant. Never seen the ‘lawful’ column before but my guess would be that it does simply confirm that the parents are married.

Not that I can yet suggest what they mean but I think the bottom set of initials could well be RF not PF.

The ‘M’ looks the same in Margaret, McPherson and the initials.
Are the name you have posted, the parents?

Yes, the names are of the parents.

A very nice lady at the Scottish RC Archives says it means 'protestant mother' and 'protestant father'. It may have been an indication that the priest hadn't been able to trace and verify the baptism of the protestant parent.

Lawful does mean married  ;)

Was the person baptised adult?
Some priests added "spuria" for an illegitimate child.

Spuria - that sounds a lot gentler than the CofE's 'bastard'.
