Uruguay BMD Advice

Would anyone be able to advise how I could obtain details for relatives BMD in Montevideo Uruguay. I have tried to email the Uruguay Embassy in London but received no replies.

Here is the web address for the Direccion General del Registro de Estado Civil de Uruguay where you can send for birth, marriage, divorce, death, and foreign registration records.  It is in Spanish.

If they were English citizens living in Uruguay, and depending on the dates of the BMDs, there may be records in the UK as well.

MARRIAGE..... David Theodore Green de Woolfson to  Maria Estavan (or Estafan) 20 March 1853.

BIRTH.... Louis Estavan Green de woolfson 26 June 1855

Hi David -

I went in and had a look at the site this morning and it says:  "El trámite está momentáneamente fuera de servicio, actualmente se encuentra en revisión por parte de las autoridades de la Dirección General del Registro de Estado Civil.  Sepa disculpar las dificultades ocasionadas."  Transactions are momentarily out of service as they are currently under revision by the Dirección General del Registro de Estado Civil.  Please forgive any inconvenience.

So, I will go back and have another look in a few days.

Meanwhile though, I checked out, as far as possible, the prices.  For births, marriages, deaths, or divorces, a regular transaction (5 working days) costs 40 pesos (Uruguay) and an urgent transaction (1 working day) costs 202 pesos.  This includes mailing costs so they might charge more to send to the UK.

I have no idea what the exchange rate might be.
