Finding occupiers of a farm in Knocknagranshy after 1956
« on: Monday 08 April 19 09:36 BST (UK) »
I've recently found out that the land originally occupied by my 4g grandfather James Keating from 1789 at Knocknagranshy eventually passed to the descendants of his great granddaughter, Anne Keating, who married James Lane in 1866.

There were Keatings and Lanes there in the 1901/1911 censuses. From the 1911 House and Building return, it seems that Edward Lane and family occupied the main house.

The last mention I have of the Lane family there was in 1956 and I wondered if later generations of the family remained there.

Hoping there is a Rootschatter who lives in the area :-)

You just copy from the address bar - it just saves others from repeating information but hopefully, as you say, perhaps a local person can fill in the gaps.
Good luck  :)

myluck! thanks for the link to the Valuation Office - I've added it to my bookmarks.

dathai, great find! Now I know the Lanes remained on the land at Knocknagranshy. I'm so pleased I can trace the ownership from 1789 to 2014!

You may be interested in website Ireland Reaching Out. It's organised by county, then by civil parishes.
https://www.irelandxo.com
You could add the story of your ancestors' holy well and ancient tree to the chronicles section.
As the occupancy of the farm was through Anne Keating, then she may have been considered "a catch". (Thinking about your previous thread about the family of Anne & James.)

Shocking death of Geoffrey, the son in 1961.
