Were the family Catholic? civil registration of Catholic marriages started in 1864 (from 1845 for non-Catholic marriages which include Registry Office ones) so if they married in a Catholic ceremony before 1864 the only record would be in a church register.

Many R.C. Parish registers are online (free)- https://registers.nli.ie/

Son Thomas born 18 Jan.1871-

Fanny Slevin died 1880 age 50- so, born c1850-
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1880/06459/4857071.pdf

Based on Fanny's age it might be more likely that the marriage took place in 1850s rather than 1860.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Did John and Frances have any children born in Scotland? If so, get one of the birth certificates (on Scotlandspeople) because they should record where and when the parents married.

Not that I'm aware of. I have a scan of a death of an Ellen Slavin. Her parents are on the marriage of John shoemaker Mk2 to Janet Darby in 1893 in Larnark
Her parents are named as David McLauchlan and Ann/ie? McGhee both are deceased presumably Ireland

Did John Snr remarry? From the list of children mentioned above for John and wife Fanny, there is this Scottish 1891 entry. Everyone showing as born in Ireland:

John Slevin 48 shoemaker
Ellen Slevin 49 wife
John Slevin 24
Thomas Slevin 20
Micheal Slevin 14
Patrick Slevin 11

Address: 42 Cheapside St, Glasgow/Anderston

There are a number of family trees for this line on a/try.

They give John Snr's remarriage to a Helen McLachlan c. 1888. Not sure whether in Ireland as I am not seeing it on Scotlands People (or maybe there was no formal marriage?).

Similarly, John Snr's death is showing as: 22 Oct 1907 at Stobhill Hospital, Glasgow. Easy enough for you to check and confirm hopefully his parents' names from this (assuming this info was known to the informant).
