John PRIDMORE (b abt 1821 Elstow)
« on: Monday 15 April 19 09:52 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to trace the ancestry of John PRIDMORE. He became a shepherd and spent his later life in the Kettering / Rothwell area of Northamptonshire. Census returns declare his place of birth to be Elstow. He married local girl Sarah Raynes in Rothwell in April 1845. The Parish Record states that his father's name was Joseph. Are there any records suggesting who and where Joseph and earlier generations may have come from?

The main reason for asking is the surprise appearance of John PRIDMORE's grandson and wife, John Cockayne and Mary Ann PRIDMORE as witnesses to a marriage in Leicester in 1919. The marriage in question involved a family from the Cottingham / Gretton area of Northamptonshire who had linkages to the Northamptonshire PRIDMORES over many generations. I am try to determine whether this invoitation to be a witness was a family link or whether they were coincidentally just good friends!

Many thanks

Alan

FamilySearch shows the baptism of John PRIGMORE at Elstow in 1819, father Joseph. Prigmore is a common name in Elstow; Pridmore doesn't really exist there. I would suggest that his name changed slightly on the move to Northamptonshire.
