Lidbury family of Bradford.
« on: Saturday 20 April 19 23:18 BST (UK) »
After drawing a blank on my research for the evening, I turned my attention to my partners tree which is a completely new venture for me!

After tracing her maternal name of Lidbury, I have found that they hail from Bradford-on-Avon and after a few generations, moved their way to the valleys of South Wales and ended up in Ferndale and Tylorstown in the Rhondda.

John Lidbury was baptised on 13 Feb 1829, in Bradford. Son of Thomas and Susannah.

I have tried to find the marriage of his parents and drawn a blank. Can anyone help find them please? Maybe its late and my eyes have gone boggley...

Thank you so much in advance.
David.

Hi

The baptism of John that you mentioned:

John LIDBURY
Parents : Thomas & Sussanah
Bp 1829 Bradford
Abode Bridge Street
Occupation Taylor

The first thing is to establish other children to try get a timeline for marriage.

I found three more baptisms - All spelled LEDBURY, Regular Parish Church, Bradford on Avon
Ann Stokes LEDBURY 1827, Abode Coppice Lane
Thomas Robert LEDBURY 1831. Abode New Town
Susannah LEDBURY1834 BradfordAbode New Town
Father's occupation: Occupation Taylor

It also looks to me as if the family  - or one side of it - were non-conformist also, and had baptisms performed in both regular church and  non-conformist - this was not unusual for the times, I've multiple examples of this in my own tree.

Daughter Susannah's Weslyan baptism gives her mother's maiden name as "Bowyer" (and her father Thomas, is occupation Taylor)

Banns of Marriage:
Thomas LEDBURY
Susannah BOWYER, both of the Borough
Banns called 14th, 21st and 28th May 1826

Marriage: On 4th June 1826
Thomas LEDBURY, a widower,
Susannah BOWYER, a Spinster
Witness: Jacon Byfields & William Gibbs
Thomas has signed his name as : "Lidbury"

Cheers

Oh Thank you so much Ambly!

My head is all mashed up due to this hot weather and researching all day. Will re-read your reply tomorrow and try to take it in.

Thank you so much on behalf of the missus!

Hi. I have a lot of information on this family, and all Lidbury branches as I have been researching my name for over 30 years. I will answer your, and any other queries you have later when I can drag myself in out of the sun.
