On 1870 census at Unionville Montana  --  JOHN DORRINGTON age 20 - born England 1850.

What became of him - did he marry in the United States - move elsewhere?

Regimental and Service Records for 1877 have a JOHN DORRINGTON  - is this the same one as listed in above 1870 census.

Places of birth for the above would be very helpful.

Do you have parents' names or a particular place of birth for your guy?  When was he last seen in England?

According to the 1881 UK census he was born in Whittlesea (sometimes spelt Whittlesey) Cambridgeshire.
From his age in 1881 he was born in 1852.

I have not found his birth registration nor can I find him on the 1861 1871 UK censuses.

I am wondering if the 20 year old John Dorrington on the 1870 Montana Census is one and the same. That is, the John Dorrington born in Whittlesea migrated to the U S and then returned sometime between 1870 and 1881.
He got married in the UK in the late 1870's - father's name given as John.  On this marriage certificate he is described as a widower but I can find no record of a first marriage in the U K.
Did he get married in the U S A - his wife died and he returned to U K ??
