care home records
« on: Friday 03 May 19 11:28 BST (UK) »
Hi, My mother, her brothers and sister, following the tragic death of their father in 1941 (there mother died giving birth in 1936) were taken into care in Dundee. I am trying to find her records of the care home she stayed at but don't know where to start. Has anyone got any experience of this and could suggest a starting point.

For a possibillity see https://carolinahousetrust.org.uk/about-us/our-story/

Also see thread https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=523379.0  and https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=549278.0 for other suggestions.

Be aware, though, of the '100 yr' rule likely applying to any potential records.

That is very sad poor wee ones loosing both their mum and dad.

There were a number of Childrens Homes in Dundee so it would be impossible to pick one or the other.

One place you may try is  www.archives@dundeecity.gov.uk  telephone 01382 434694 and they may be able to help you.

Just out of interest which part of Dundee did your mum's family live in? My dad was a Dundonian.

Good luck with your search,

My grandad and his family were all from the Hilltown although that was before your mum's time. The remaining family ended up in Hill Street until the 1950's.

Hope you find what you are looking for,
