I am currently researching my family tree and it seems my g grandfather may of changed his name from wood to burns.
I am really struggling with this part of my history. I am on ancestry and have done a DNA test,
Any body think they can help? On his birth certificate 1900 the address stated is 12 fowler rd. I believe he was born john stanley wood to joseph and Mary wood. It's said he was put into a police orphanage. He died and was known as robert john stanley burns. Only when I applied for wedding certificate did the name wood appear

John Stanley Wood b 22 Jan 1900 (late soldier, R.F.A. Woolwich) was taken on as a temporary junior porter at King’s Cross Station on 7 November 1916.

It was a short-lived role - he was summarily discharged on 10 November 1916 for using obscene language to an inspector.

His marriage to Lilian Mitchell in St Pancras 1q 1923 is indexed under both surnames, Wood and Burns.

Just to add to this - though you probably know as it seems like you have his birth certificate - John Stanley Wood's mother's maiden name was MASLEN

Added - this maiden name confirmed at the birth of his brother Joseph T(Thomas).
