Yes he has conflicting date of births.
I was lead to believe he always believed it to be 1900 but then he had to send away for identification for pension that revealed it to b 1899. This is confusing with the birth certificate though. Apparently there was a delay with registering the birth?
We always believed we had Scottish roots my mum thought he may of been born scotland and registered England. But his parents didn't keep him long.
I wonder what the identification he got could have been? After all the most likely thing he would have got would have been a birth certificate.
I am presuming you have the 1900 January quarter Birth cert. Does it confirm his birth date as 22 January 1900? or the 1899 date? because a registration in that qtr could just as easily be a birth that took place in december 1899.
That delay would be well within the normal bounds.
Does it also confirm his mother as nee Maslen?
The scottish roots story could have come about because of his choice of new name.
