but the 1900 birth date is on the 1939.

1froglet - who were the witnesses at the marriage?

On the army papers he gives 22nd January 1897 (the year found to be wrong).

Army record of JS Wood - if it is the right one - says next of kin, Mother, Mrs Mary Mills, 72 Upper Tollington Park, London N
Funnily enough there is a Mills at that address in 1911, an elderly man living with his sister.
He was there in 1901

Quote
He joined the army in 1915, saying he'd been born in 1897, and was discharged shortly afterwards when they found he had lied about his age.

At that point he said his next of kin was his mother Mrs Mary Jane Mills (or possibly Hills), of 53 Woodland Place, Muswell Hill

I reckon that says Woodland Rise. There is no Woodland Place.
