George Howell born in Hertfordshire, married Caroline Elizabeth Jansen born 1813 in  George. Does anybody know when he arrived in ZA or where he came from exactly?

You could try a publication "British residents at the Cape" which documents the early British families in the 2nd occupation of the Cape by the British.

If you google George Lawrence Howells a tree for him comes up. Unfortunately it does not state when he arrived here, but does give the names and births of his children as well as information on Caroline.
