St Michaels Churchyard
« on: Wednesday 15 May 19 12:16 BST (UK) »
I have just ordered a book about memorials in this particular churchyard --

I am researching

Baillie William Fingas/k

there is a possibility that he is my 9th GG

I found him on Find a Grave via his wife Isobel Johnston.

And have checked him on SP  plus others...

If as it says he was a Baillie.......?  then I would imagine there is more somewhere about him..

I have documentation  that shows his daughter Barbara m William Lawrie in 1702
then her daughter Grizell married William Patterson 1724 and then  --- down to my Himsleys  as per attached....

so have a lot that says yes -- but want to veryify.. as much as poss...

I dont suppose anyone knows the churchyard? and or has seen if there is a 'Stone'  --  I have asked Find a Grave etc.....

just searching for all I can on this interesting branch..

xin

I have some ancestors buried in that Churchyard, Xin, but I  can't remember the source. I did originally find a ref in the Dumfries Sessions records and then did some more searches. I'll see if I can find the sources later today.

it was about 15 years ago though so it might take a while to find the trail.

Just come back from my glass class  :)

I've had a quick look through the Kirk Session minutes on the DumGal site and found this:

Quote
Forename :    William (deceased)
Surname :    FINGAS
Date :    1695-04-23
Notes :    seat rental
Page :    221, 241
Place :
Reference :    CH2/537/15/1
Topic :    deceased husband of Isobel Johnston; an Act of Session of 1682 allowed him to build a seat in the kirk
Trade :

https://info.dumgal.gov.uk/HistoricalIndexes/Home/DisplayDetailedSearchResults_Dumfries_Kirk_Session

I'll have a look in my files for other sources. I think Dumfries and Galloway FHS had copies of the MIs but their website looks as if it's down.

...and to search out his 'venerable tombstone'  :)

His baptism is recorded elsewhere as December 1637, Perthshire. Father as Arthur but I expect you've got that  :)
