John Hinton (1743 - 1798)
« on: Friday 17 May 19 17:38 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I have found an image that purports to be of my 5th great-grandfather, John Hinton (1743 - 1798).
(See attachment).

It cannot be a photograph, as the earliest photograph was 1826.

Perhaps it is a photograph of a portrait? Alternatively, it could be a photograph of a later John Hinton. I was wondering if the style of dress was that of the 18th Century.

Any comments would be most welcome.

Thanks,

Gordon

Hi Gordon

I would say it's a photograph. Also, his clothing, hairstyle and moustache suggest a much later date, say late 19th- early 20th century.

Thanks all.

That confirms what I was thinking, after looking at it for a while.
