Help deciphering Scottish surname
« on: Sunday 19 May 19 09:48 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I am struggling to identify the maiden name of Ann Bain from who was married to James.  I've attached copies of entries from James Bain's death certificate (1870) and her daughter Elizabeth Bain's marriage certificate (1871) and her death certificate (1869).

I think I can make out the letters Skattle but can't find any surname that would tie up with that, and there are no entries for that surname on Scotland's People.

Ann lived and died in Banff (Gamrie & MacDuff), not sure where she was born, but probably in or around the same area.

Any help in deciphering greatly received  :)

Thank you!

From that I've managed to find an FHL entry on Ancestry using that as the search and from there found a marriage entry for Ann Skekel & James Bain in Gamrie 1837  on SP :)
