Elusive Londoners
« on: Saturday 25 May 19 21:20 BST (UK) »
Hi
This is a copy of how the Honig family appeared on the 1911 London census

Lazrus Genik    Head   M   30   Russian Pol Resident
Rachel Genik      Wife   F   31   Russian Pol Resident
Joseph Genik     Son   M   10   British St Georges East
Annie Genik     Daughter   F   8   British St Georges East
Janie Genik      Daughter   F   6   British St Georges East
Sarah Genik     Daughter   F   2   British St Georges East
Joseph Scwarth    Nevine   M   19   Russian Pol

Schedule Type    226
Page Number   1
Registration Number   RG14
Piece/Folio   455
Affiliate Record Identifier   GBC/1911/RG14/01499/0455/1
"England and Wales Census, 1911," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XWP9-JH4 : 8 May 2019), Lazrus Genik, London, England, United Kingdom; from "1911 England and Wales census," database and images,

The parents were Jewish, arrived from Russia / Poland and as they had little grasp of English, a certain amount of flexibility is required to identify them in earlier records.  Their children appear to have been born in the St George of the East district of London with Joseph being born around the time of the 1901 census.

I would greatly appreciate any help that can be given to identify any of the children’s births, or to locate the parents and one son on the 1901 census.

Regards Roy G

The Joseph Scwarth is a Nevue (Nephew) .
It looks like the kids' birthplace of St george was an afterthought

The inevitable problem when helping a third party is that you dont get all the facts.

avm228   I would think what you write about Bella is a possibility, for I do know the son Joseph (b c1900) did make it to the USA.

PaulineJ   Yes I interpreted the other Joseph as a Nephew as well, and suggest his surname was actually Schwartz

Mckha489 Thanks for your post which is also adding more credence to Finkelstein being Rachel's maiden name.

Looks as though Lazrus as Leizer HONIG went to USA 1913.  Contact address in uk is Mrs HONIG commercial road. His occupation stick maker

By 1920 US census the whole family is in Manhattan

Father has become Louis.  Surname for all HONIG
