Manchester Cathedral 16 January 1773 William Pownall

Manchester Cathedral Marriage on 16 January 1773 Groom:  William Pownall:  I have 2 possibilities for the bride ie Frances Pawson or Frances Paulden.  The groom definitely was William Pownall.  Frances Pawson's father seems to be a John Pawson.  John Pawson seems to be the son of Henry & Catharine Pawson nee Fairfax - which then has a huge family history at Steeton Castle, Yorkshire.  However if it is Frances Paulden - it seems she came from Cheshire.  Apparently the marriage certificates for the Manchester Cathedral show both parents which would be extremely helpful.

Welcome to rootschat

The marriage register image is on Ancestry, there is no mention of parents for either party.  Frances did not sign the register and her surname as written by the clergy looks like Pauldon/Paulden

It looks to be Frances Paulden - ‘e’ is the same as in Frances and it states Frances is of Manchester.

William Pownall is a ‘Callenderman’.
