Hello Rootschat

Please help find the daughter of Enrique Henry Unthoff in the 1939 census:

Ida May Adelaide Uhthoff born 1906.

She is a nurse and never married, perhaps she is on nursing duties abroad as World War Two has started.

Thank you for your help.

To confirm:
Are you looking for Claude in the UK 1901 census, or possibly elsewhere in the world?

A suggestion:
Condense this request somewhat by removing any information not directly related to the Uhthoffs.

The huge swathes of detail included in this query is rather overwhelming I’m afraid and some may not feel inclined to wade through it all in order to try to help you.

Initial thought is that there might be a transcription error or misinterpretation of that surname.

PS. Those links don’t work.

Good luck with it all.  :)

Oops sorry about that, hopefully the Bank Of England and the National Archives will be more reliable!

Yes thank you, already tried that good tip, more experienced users have other tricks up their sleeves, or other sources of information!

Thanks for 1938 electoral register so why not appearing in 1939 census, I think she has gone abroad to help the wounded soldiers.

It seems with Claude, the Uhthoff family are happy for him to be in the 1905 US Census and 1910 US Census but not the 1901 UK Census and 1911 UK Census - do people know in advance when the census is going to take place to go abroad or just be 'out' to not complete their information.

Claude's father Enrique was in the 1896 newspapers, so his family are well known, his father Ludolfe and grandfather Henry appear in the newspapers too - having an illegitimate child with a 17 year old servant in 1897 would have been scandalous for such a wealthy family.

I have told you how to find her on the 1939 register in reply # 12. She can be found quite easily. She is in England, not abroad.

Oh and sorry, not meaning to state the obvious, using Ancestry and FindMyPast for records, using British Newspaper Archives for information, National Archives for information, local museums, specialised museums, specialised forums - but even just typing the person's full name, with or without a date, with or without a location, with or without a reason for searching - my relative typed our great-granddad's name onto an internet search - and found him being treated for a serious leg injury in one of the London children's hospitals in their hospital archives, from when a horse and cart went out of control, knocked him over and damaged his leg - from which he was always crippled and couldn't serve in World World One - but the constant pain turned him into an alcoholic from heavy drinking trying to cope with the pain. The family had heard of this rumour about the leg injury but finding the evidence in black and white was incredible - but also very upsetting as the drinking and moodiness from constant pain caused his wife to leave with the younger children and the older children being sent to a children's home.  I often wonder what his life would have been like if that horse and cart had driven along the road just like any other day.  Sadly, that wasn't his fate.

My husband's ancestors made concertinas - Victorian concertinas are quite expensive to buy now - a specialised concertina forum knew the concertina factory where our ancestor worked from where she lived or she may collected the parts and made them at home as the Victorian transport systems were in place to help workers get to their jobs more quickly and easily.  Her father was a carpenter and quite often the wife and daughters would be taught how to make musical instruments.
