Dathan appears to be a bundle of laughs himself... I see a marriage of a Dathan SUMMERS to Caroline DAMRELL 1899 Bristol, but Dathan had been with his wife Caroline for decades at that point. The Caroline in 1899 appears to be the widow of James DAMRELL and married him as widow of a RIVERS (maiden WESTON). Presumably Dathan's wife Caroline is the same one consistently, unless he coincidentally married two Carolines of the same age both born in Calne.

In 1881 there are two RIVERS children with Dathan and Caroline. I initially thought these might be linked to Benjamin RIVERS but I guess I'll have to poke at them a bit more.

There are some people in the world that manage to induce a headache. Then again, I'm not obliged to research this but we do anyway don't we, for the challenge!

Dathan married Caroline Rivers, widow, 1870 in Denton Wiltshire (hence the Rivers children), Dathan is transcribed on Ancestry as Dathan Simmers  ???

So Caroline Weston married Alfred Rivers 1862 in Calne...Alfred is the son of Benjamin Rivers and Jane Wilkins/Rivers/Summers.....therefore the half or step brother of Dathan/Daniel...phew....

Well they are certainly interesting  :)

That is less complicated, certainly! Although it leaves me with the other question of who is the Dathan who married in 1899?

The funny thing about following the Caroline through RIVERS, DAMRELL etc is that I couldn't find a census that conflicted whatsoever- it just seemed like Caroline was with Dathan in 1881, dumped him for a new hubby and left him in the workhouse, and then went back to him in time for the 1901  ;D There's even a William RIVERS on the census, the 'son' of James DAMRELL.

All in all, I think I've slightly lost the plot at this point!

I don’t know if any of it is “less complicated”  ;D ;D ;D

I had a bit of time this afternoon to look at Caroline...

And I think we’ve both lost the plot...

Caroline Weston:
1862 - married Alfred Rivers, Calne
1866 - death of Alfred Rivers,  Calne
1870 - married Dathan Summers as Caroline Rivers, MN Weston, Denton Wiltshire
1871 - ? Possibly the John & Caroline Summers in Bedminster, sons William & Benjamin are in Calne Poor House.
1881 - Barton Regis, with Dathan & sons William & Benjamin.
1884 - death of Caroline Damrell (b1824) the wife of James Damerell
1885 - married James Damrell as Caroline Rivers, MN Weston, Bristol
1891 - Barton Regis, with James Damrell & son William
1891- death of James Damerell
1899 - married Dathan Summers, as Caroline Damrell (again? Was 1st marriage nullified somehow?)
1901 - Bristol, with Dathan (RG13/2380/127/3
1901- Bristol Workhouse, Bathan Summers, Marr, b1839, masons lab, born Calne Wilts (RG13/2397/141/37) Is this the same Dathan, recorded twice?
1904- death of Dathan Summers Bristol
1911 - Caroline Summers, Widow, Bristol
1916 - death of Caroline Summers, Bristol

Would be great to find...
Dathan Summers in 1871 & 1891

This is why my brain was trying to leak out of my ears while I was looking at this yesterday  ;D

You are right, Dathan/Bathan entries are both 1901, I missed that, maybe in mental self defence. I suppose I can at least be glad that Dathan himself isn't my direct line and indeed it doesn't appear that he had (surviving) children by Caroline? That reduces the chance of me matching up with people by DNA but at least it must have saved unborn generations a headache.
