Is this the second marriage you had in mind?

Marriages Q4 1878  Merthyr T.    11a   568

THOMAS    John
THOMAS    Martha
WILLIAMS    Esther
WILLIAMS    Rees

Would explain why the step children were called Thomas

Martha and first husband Thomas appear to have been living at Gellyhir in 1871

There's a possible for Lewis lodging in Griffithstown (Pontypool) in 1891. Born Llanvabon, loco engine fireman

A possibility in following years is a Lewis Thomas married to Nellie/Ellen living in Rock Terrace (Blackwood?)
1901 - b Argoed, coal hewer
1911 - b Bedwellty parish

Amelia - 1891. Main Road, Rock Bedwellty/Blackwood

Richard Morris    65 - grocer, widow
Evan J Morris    22
Bessie L Morris    21
Amelia Thomes    16 - b Llanfabon, niece. Draper's assistant

The connection appears to be with the Jenkins again. Evan's middle name is Jenkins, and Bessie's is Leah, the name of Amelia's maternal grandmother
