I really do appreciate your exploring all of these avenues, TreeSpirit!

I think my best bet is to write the municipality of Charleroi, since they probably absorbed Couillet's records. I'd wondered about the divorce too, as it opens up the possibility of other children. It's a curious and sad situation, particularly if my hunch is right that he died without family in England. And in a way, I feel like even learning of his name and relation to my grandmother is a gift I never counted on. And your help with this has also been a gift, so perhaps he's out there somewhere helping this along.
