Jo, thank you so much for all this information. I shall have to find some time to digest it and compare with what I have (and I will report back). You have given me some useful clues, and signposts for where to go next. I am most grateful.

Hi Alyn

Ive just been looking at an image of the film & can see that George Church = Phoebe Bendall on the date you gave & the marriage is on page 28 with the No 82 as you would already know - but IO was hoping to get a bit of a clue from the witnesses but no luck as they both have the surname Clark.

Good luck with your search

After a couple of weeks on other things, I now have an answer to my original question - probably.

By a process of elimination I have concluded that the George I am seeking is most likely no 1 - son of Robert Church and Mary Palmer. The information that Jo offered goes a long way to corroborating this.

I have discounted no 2 (son of Richard Church and Betty Filer). One of the witnesses at their wedding was Samuel Filer, and their son George appeared in the 1841 census living with Samuel.

The information that Heather provided earlier in this thread convinced me to discount no 3 (son of William Church and Sarah Bendall).

I now have a definite thread to follow further, so thanks once again to all who helped me.

Alyn
