Police Constable Burry of Wiltshire x 2
« on: Wednesday 05 June 19 19:51 BST (UK) »
Help please can anyone help me sort out two P. C. Burry s who both worked in Wiltshire?
Frank BURRY was a police Officer between 1909-1940
and Abert Edward Gordon Burry was a constable not sure the extent of his service but he joined the Wiltshire Force sometime between 1909 and 1911 and by 1939 he had become a licensee possibly of the New London Inn , Calne,
There are many newspaper reports that would add interest to both these gentlemen but when they simply refer to P.C.BURRY it is difficult to decide which report belongs to which man.
I know Frank was the villlage policeman at Limpley Stoke at least between 1918-1922
I also know he became a Court Bailiffe in Warminster in 1940 after leaving the Police Force.

One of them ..(or was there a third PC Burry?) worked in Trowbridge and played cricket for the Trowbridge Police team (a useful bowler") between 1910-1938 but sometimes for the  Warminster and Tisbury Police  team Is there one cricketer or did they both play???
Albert E G was in Chilmark in 1911but where is that?

Now to add to the mix Albert E.G had a son who also served in the Wiltshire force He seems to be in  both Trowbridge and in Bradford on Avon  in 1941?  To say I am confused is putting it mildly.
Any ideas how to sort them out please?
How can I find out who served where and when?

Chilmark is in Salisbury. ancestry in their wisdom has it as Salisbury Wiltshire!
So Stanley Theodore Roy Burry was born 1909, son of Albert E born c1885.
Stanley T R actually becomes known as Roy Stanley Theodore as evidenced in his father's probate 1958 and is a police constable at the time. He died 1967.
Frank Burry Police constable in 1911 born All Cannings, Wiltshire c 1885
Just some background which may help sort the Burry policemen.

Right so that gives me the Location of Chilmark the rest I already had Edward EG and  Frank were brother in lawsas they married sisters on my husbands tree not direct line but near enough to ne of interest.  ( and they were 3rd cousins)
There isa report of one at Pewsham House in 1930 and in Old Derry Hill again in 1930 now if I am right those places are near Calne where AEG was a publican in 1939   so do these reports belong to him?
RST was in Bradford on Avon in 1939 so is  that going to help sort him out.
Many thanks for your interest

Hooray a bit of a break through I have found a newspaper report of Roy's marriage in 1932 showing his father in Calne and he in Swindon. So I think the Pewsham and Derry Hill P.C. was AEG. RST must have moved to Bradord on Avon 1932 AND 1939
By the way Frank died in the Salsibury district so that adds to the confusion as you hsay Chilmark is near Salisbury ???
