Commonwealth War Graves Commission would ike to contact relatives of Private William Ward - service number 6618 who died 22/8/1914 - buried Glasgow (St Kentigerns) RC Cemetery.

Recent research has shown that Private William Ward is buried Glasgow (St Kentigerns) RC Cemetery. Sec 2 Lair 1803 - The commission is in the process of producing a headstone to mark his grave.

Regiment:   Cameronian (Scottish Rifles) - 4 th Btn Scottish Rifles - Regimental Number 6618 - Enlisted 28/4/1908 - occupation shoemaker - widow Elizabeth and children.

William Ward was aged 35 years - Son of Hugh and Mary Ward, of Glasgow.

1901 shows a William Ward with a wife Elizabeth -121 So Willington St Glasgow.

If the above census was correct - then could this be the marriage - ? (only because the midle initial is "T"  ???

You look to have found the correct marriage, Sandra. There is this mention confirming her maiden name as Taggart http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/warmemscot-post-83015.html

Thanks Monica - missed that - very sad - ) "died by accidentally falling into the Clyde in the early hours of the morning of August 22nd 1914 at Fairfield Dock, Govan, whilst on guard duty "  :'(

Hadn't found an awful ,lot on him - must be children but haven't found there names yet - got side tracked  ::)

There is one possible death for a son to William and Elizabeth:

William Ward, mmm Taggart
Died aged 67 in 1975, Glasgow. Born c. 1906

Possible 1911 index entries in Hutchesontown, Glasgow:
