Census Records
« on: Thursday 13 June 19 12:02 BST (UK) »
Hi

Can anyone help me please.

On census forms why do some of the records say "this record is officially closed"?

On the 1939 census there are 2 members of my family blacked out like this.

Any suggestions?

Regards

Heather

The 1939 was not a census! It was a National Register intended to be 'a critical tool in coordinating the war effort at home. It would be used to issue identity cards, organise rationing and more.'

The reason you see names blacked out is that they are people who are potentially still alive.

Before searching a new resource it pays to read the instructions and FAQs,  you will nearly always find the answers to any questions  there. You can save yourself a lot of time and wasted effort by doing do so, otherwise you may miss a vital piece of information. :)

If they are definitely dead and you have the death certs to support that, you can apply to Find My Past to have their redacted records opened.
