10 Dees Sq,Windy Nook
« on: Thursday 13 June 19 12:32 BST (UK) »
Hi Guys
I think this housing was cleared as it was not up to standard.
Our family interest was Number 10
1920 Thomas Robson lived there with his wife Annie and sadly Annie & Doris their Daughter died after child birth in April 1920.
1930 William Arnell was Thomas' nephew and gave this address as his place of residence as he married on Christmas Day at Holy Trinity By then Thomas had moved back to 14 Albion St (parental home) but a coincidence ..he remarried on Christmas Day 1930 too but in Chester le St.

I wonder if electoral registers & Voters lists reveal more.

There seems to have been a Housing Confirmation Order back in 1936

An Arnell in Dees Square in 1936

Newcastle Evening Chronicle 18 July 1936
[winner of a children's competition]
Quote
THOMAS ARNELL, No. 199,693, 10, Dees Square, , Windy Nook, near Gateshead.

Looking at the list of scheduled clearances in the 1936 newspapers it would seem that most of Windy Nook was demolished!

24 March 1927, Shields Daily Gazette

Quote
PIT FATALITY MYSTERY
Coroner on Unsatisfactory Felling Inquest.
"No one knows how this happened, and probably no one ever will," said Mr A. E. E. Boulton, Deputy Coroner, at the close of what he described as ćan unsatisfactory case."

It was at an inquest, last night at Felling on Thomas Arnell, aged 15, a pony-driver, of Dees Square, Windy Nook.

Arnell was fatally injured while following his employment at Felling Colliery last Monday.

George A. W. Clark, aged 16, a fellow pony driver of deceased, said on Monday morning he was in the North Flat with Arnell who was driving two full tubs. He saw deceased get on the limbers and begin to drive away.

Witness had turned in an opposite direction, when he heard Arnell's lamp fall. He found Arnell Iying on the bottom, across the full way, with his arms and legs under the wheels of the front tub. Witness went for help.

John Hill Robinson, deputy, said Arnell's arms and legs were not injured, but he had a bruise on the forehead, and a wound on the back of the head. The lad was unconcious. His lamp was found on the ground.

Witness added there was nothing to show the cause of the accident. The roof was even and of a height well clear of deceased's head. The verdict was "death from injuries received."

Thanks Alan, John Thomas’ grandfather was my 2x great grandfather’s brother.  I wonder how the young lad came to have his accident?  I suspect it had something to do with riding the tubs

I’m not sure what you are getting at here. The Arnell family are at number 10 Dees Square, Windy Nook, Gateshead. Heworth is the parish. Also, the original clearly has Clotilda, not Matilda.

Apologies in advance if I have misunderstood what you have said.
