Jean Downard
« on: Sunday 16 June 19 15:52 BST (UK) »
Hello,
Augustus Charles Downard and his second wife Elizabeth Alice Davis married 1928 and their daughter Jean was born 1929 in Pancras Registration District, London.
Jean was not living with her mother in Northants, nor her father in St Pancras on the 1939 Register.     I know there was friction between Augustus and the Downards, it would seem there was also friction between him and his wife.
She was not with any of the Downard family either, but as I do not know her Davis grandparents I have been unable to check if she was with them.
Jean had a child in Islington in 1952, and he was adopted.     He has found one of the Downards and asked if they knew of his birth mother.
Jean went to Canada in October 1952, on board the Queen Elizabeth to New York and then on to Canada.
She was again in New York in May 1954 on board Queen Mary on her way to Vancouver, BC, Canada.

Anyone know anything which might help me find Jean?

Some couples were living apart though still married on the 1939 register.  If a man was employed away from home, maybe working on a shift system and lived elsewhere during his working week he would be registered at the address he was on the night the register was taken.

Did Augustus & Elizabeth state they were married on the register.

If Jean was staying elsewhere because of the war and she then lived in Canada then it is quite likely that her record is still blacked out as any death record would be in Canada and it would be assumed that she is still living

Unfortunately, there are no marriage records available in British Columbia for the time frame you require.  Jean doesn't appear on Canada Voters Lists 1935 - 1980  :-\

Do you have the actual birthdate for Jean? If yes, you should send it by pm please as she may be still alive and may be in the USA. Some records have turned up there for a possible Jean whose posted birthdate in one of them (even though it is a US public record, I won't post it here to protect her privacy and there is no way to know yet if she is the correct person either) would correspond to her UK birth quarter.

PM received. Birth cert might be warranted at some point but not yet.

It appears that Jean also became known as Jane. There is a Jane Downard on a 1957 passenger list who apparently gives about the same address as can be found for Augustus in the Electoral Register. She is actually with him at a different address in the 1951 and 1952 Electoral Register.

I think that with the privacy of the individual I have found in mind, I am going to put together what I have found and send it by PM. If *Sandra* and rosie99 would also like it I can send it to them if they let me know.

Oh my word!!!!

I have started transcribing the records to send and a second look at the 1957 UK outbound passenger list has provided a birthdate for Jane (mentioned last post) that exactly matches the dates on the other records I have found. Can't believe I missed that! You will have to decide for yourself when I get the info to you but the records almost surely are related to your Jean.

That's a good result, well done.  I was trailing in your steps polarbear but other commitments - unfortunately  :-\
- I have seen the petition for naturalization, stated born in London,  US public records etc.,
