I'll start again.

TURNER, HARRY       DUDLEY  1876  D 1/4 in LEIGHTON BUZZARD  Volume 03B  Page 396
& Oddly
TURNER, KATE       DUDLEY  1874  D 1/4 in LEIGHTON BUZZARD  Volume 03B  Page 386
TURNER, KATE       1y  (at death) 1875  D Q1/4 in LEIGHTON BUZZARD  Volume 03B  Page 255

Eliza is getting on a bit, could Kate be a granddaughter?

I agree that there doesn’t seem to be an obvious birth registration for her, although they do come up for her siblings as Turner with mother’s maiden name Dudley, matching the 1858 marriage of the parents.

Hi Pauline J and avm,
Thanks for your replies.  I agree - I am thinking the mother was Sarah Jane Turner, daughter of Joseph and Eliza. Also have you got access to the Leighton Buzzard Observer dated 4.6.1878? Margaret

The newspaper report has it that Henry William Rogers, brewer of LB is summoned by Sarah Jane Turner, single woman of LB, saying that he should be adjudged to be father of her illegitimate child. She was 18 years old in Nov 1877 & child was born 26 Dec 1877. There's more info if you want it.

That being recorded I cannot find a birth record for a Turner child in that period. If it is Kate then did she name it after her recently deceased sister?

Sarah Jane Turner went on the marry Joseph Fowler in LB in Mar 1880 and in later censuses her daughter Kate is not with that family.

1911 census has parents Joseph & Eliza Turner had 11 children & 4 died. I can account for these 11 children if you include Rosa/Hannah (who was registered as Dudley in Mar 1858) & the four that died are Amy born 1866 died 1867, Albert Charles b 1867 d 1884, William b 1871 d 1871 & Kate b 1874 d 1875.  So this 2nd Kate isn't their daughter

Cheers John

Thanks John,
I am sure this Kate  must be the child - born 26.12.1877.  I wonder where Kate got to after the 1891 census. regards, Margaret

This looks promising:

GRO BIRTHS:
TURNEY, ALICE  KATE    -    no mmn

Free BMD:
