looking for Pithie

Good evening
Just wondering if someone can help with a possible date of leaving Scotland and heading to New Zealand for the following as I have drawn a blank on ancestry and family search (however maybe I'm missing a clue):

Thomas Maxwell Pithie born 1839 to John and Isobel and baptised at Dunnichan 18 August 1839.  He appears in the 1861 census as an Ag Lab.  By 18 March 1871 he is marrying (Mary) Jane Mills in New Zealand.  So somewhere between the night of the census  1861 and March 1871 he has emigrated.

I realise this was a significant time for emigration but thought I would seek the advice of those more experienced

Many thanks for that Eve.  I am not yet very good at finding emigration records.  But thanks to your link I also found his wife-to-be who came from Ireland to NZ.
