Belshaw
« on: Monday 24 June 19 00:49 BST (UK) »

My great x2 granddad John Belshaw was born in Newtownards in 1807.He married Fanny McRobert and they had 5 or 6 children, they both died in 1867.
I am looking for John Belshaw's father but I've had no luck.
       Can anyone help please?
               Thanks Sandyjose.

hi Sandyjose so not knowing what you know, start with http://www.rosdavies.com/SURNAMES/B/BehBew.htm
John   BELSHAW   .   Newtownards   of Ballyharry ; husband of Fanny McCroberts/ McRoberts ; father of John b. 24 Oct & bpt. 27 Oct 1833 & John (sic) b. 13 Mar & bpt. 20 Mar 1836 & Mary b. 28 May & bpt. 28 Jun 1842 & Jane b. 29 Jul & bpt. 14 Sep 1844 & Hugh McCroberts Belshaw b. 25 Apr & bpt. 26 May 1850 at 1st Newtownards Presbyterian Church   Pr
have you checked if anyone is searching for Belshaw on her website’s message board. the answer is no. so why not message
of further interest in Ros Davies
John   BELSHAW   .   Newtownards   of Bowtown; husband of Mary Harper ; father of James b. & bpt. 27 Mar 1834 at 1st Newtownards Presbyterian Church   PR

before I move on I am registering Ballyharry is the next townland to Newtownards  Corporation north townland, on the road to Donaghadee It sits above Movilla townland  so burial in Movilla highly likely on the south side of Movilla is Bowtown so near enough to have Belshaw connections

to understand the missing information normally available from tithes I check these townlands in griffiths valuation to find who is the landlord or BALLYHARRY Marquis of Londonderry so there might be something in the mass of their paper archives, other small landlords inc Wm , Patton , William Crawford.   BOOTOWN has Marquis of Londonderry . Robert Jamison , knowing the townlands allow searching in PRONI ecatalogue among many other databases did the Belshaw move away emigrate etc see
 http://www.dippam.ac.uk/ied/

Linenhall library , Belfast have a small collection of a Belshaws books but I don’t think connected, That library also has Blackwood manuscript trees but there are none for Belshaw.
No entries for Belshaw in Flaxgrowers 1796 Co Down see https://www.failteromhat.com/flax/down.php
No entries for Belshaw in http://www.irishgenealogyhub.com/down/tithe-applotment-books/newtownards-parish.php
only one townland has survived Ballyskeagh

Newtownards FH online records have had a tragedy in the most recent years with the sudden death of the website entrepreneur, Derek Beattie of rustybike fame.  his entire website was pulled down.  I don’t use facebook but that’s the site of his friends contributions to Newtownards FH online do contact them for advice some records might survive.

1st Newtownards Presbyterian Church Newtownards records ,appear to start 1831 no graveyard might mean the family have a tombstone in Movilla .  Ros Davies writes about Movilla      Gravestone inscriptions available UHF Vol 11 ; email me Ros Davies for a gravestone look-up; currently the cemetery is maintained by Ards Borough Council ; http://www.movilla-abbey-cofi.co.uk/ or Parks & Cemeteries Manager, Ards Borough Council, 2 Church Street
Newtownards,Co. Down BT23 4AP; for gravestone photos try http://www.igp-web.com/IGPArchives/ire/down/photos/tombstones/markers.htm & http://www.northdownroots.co.uk/roots_gravestone.html

that’s as far as I can offer hope others join in
