Ah yes, sorry  :-[, and in exactly the right place to be No 11.

I see from the streetview in Priscilla's link, the house next door is Littlecroft & almost opposite is Dunette, which latter appears on the 1939

Sorry Shaun, in my haste wrong cutting of the map, you are correct that is the one
anything and everything to do with the village of Brithdir, near New Tredegar in Gwent.

According to www.freecen.org.uk/freecen_coverage/DEV, Shaldon is within the place name Wonford [piece 263 in 1841, 1870 in 1851, 1695 in 1891].

ADDED: This is the description of the two parts of piece 1695 in 1891

I've browsed these 2 districts & towards the end of district 16 pce 1695 folios 104 + 105 pages 32 - 34 are The Ness, Dunmore, Dunmore Lodge, Ness Cottage & Ness Lodge. Ness Cottage appears on the map in Horse Lane so I think this is the area, just need to work out which house was 11!

The relevant description of part of pce 1870 from 1851, I have browsed this & the vast majority have no addresses so seemingly impossible to identify one house. Folio 324 onwards.

1871 piece 2074 from folio 13; folio 28 page 25 starts Providence Row - after Shaldon Back Street - then Dunmore House, New Lodge then Peggins Cottage & Ness House both unoccupied; no way of identifying Horse Lane.

1881 piece 2157 Providence Row starts folio 158; Dunmore House on folio 164, 165. Can't see any Scotts in 1871 or 1881.

ADDED: As the censuses I have accessed so far have no addresses maybe a local history society can help more?

Wishing you good luck in your search, I am leaving it to others now.

Like I said, "this is tricky. Horse Lane per se doesn't appear on any published census as far as I can see."

The house deeds should provide some clues. Also electoral rolls, working backwards and forwards from 1939.

The free element of the 1939 register names Alice Watts born 1878 as the occupant of "Redcliff" in Providence Row.

In earlier electoral rolls her address is 5 Providence Row, at least from 1927-1931.  There is also a Sydney Archie Watts in some years.

Sydney Archie Watts' residence per his 1977 probate was Redcliff, 11 Horse Lane, Shaldon

There is a wealth of information about this family in a public tree on Ancestry, including this photo of Sydney outside the house in the 1940's: https://tinyurl.com/y5jxs3oa
