Edward Waters Hall and Mary McCarthy

I have a wedding certificate for this couple married Hokitika NZ Jan 31, 1877. This lady ex Ireland was ? previously married to Maurice Morton in Australia about 1864 and had a son Maurice George to him in Ballarat, Vict. Aust. Then she came to NZ, had another son Albert in 1872 also called Morton in ? Christchurch.
As for Edward (Edwin W Hall we have no other info than he was from Devon born about 1850 and he was a butcher.
Can anyone offer help please?

Notice dated 29 January 1877: Mary MCCARTHY, widow, a Servant aged 32 years, dwelling at Hokitika, length of residence 4 years, to marry Edward (Edwin) HALL, bachelor, a Butcher aged 27 years, dwelling at Hokitika, length of residence 4 months, at St Mary’s Church, Hokitika.
Certificate dated 7 February 1877. Reverend P.(A.?) MARTIN.

I'll have a look for his death next week. Do you happen to know when Mary HALL died, and if she was survived by her husband? That would narrow the search.

Who is your principal target, Edwin or Mary?

Edwin/Edward is my main target first, yes i do live in NZ.
I think he would have diedbetween 1879 and 1926.
He had a son born in 1880 in ChCh,NZ and Mary was a widow at her death.

I searched the RGO death indexes from 1877 to 1900 inclusive and found several deaths;

1880   HALL Edwin, folio 613 = Patea TNK
1881   HALL Edward, folio 365 = Dunedin OTG
1884   HALL Edward, folio 209 = Wellington WTN
1884   HALL Edward, folio 1077 = Hawera TNK
1888   HALL Edward, folio 1548 = Auckland AKD
1896    HALL Edward, folio 1391 = Hutt WTN

There's no guarantee that his middle name would have been used when his death was registered, but this list suggests that he died after 1900.

Are you living somewhere that has the RGO death indexes on microfiche at the library?
