I’ve recently ordered a PDF Death Certificate for Mary Ann Kean, nee Young, who died of TB in January 1891.

It shows that she was definitely married to Richard Kean, who was a Sapper in the Royal Engineers. And so he must be the man at Cheriton Barracks on the 1891 Census.

I’ll try attaching it here.

The problem is what happened to him next? I’ve never been able to find a Death Entry for him…

Romilly.

they must have had a daughter Catherine married in USA in  1911 cos parents are Richard Kean and mothers maiden name Mary Ann Young.  Did we find this before ? its a while since I looked for your grandfather.

Yes thanks Sandie, - we did!

I haven’t looked for a while because it seemed impossible 😵‍💫

However, ordering that PDF of Mary Ann Kean’s death, has spurred me on to have another look…👀

Know what you mean it still seems most likely answer name change but without proof its a leap of faith .........so many similar bits its like that one in the Victoria police gazette all points to him same name date of birth occupation birth place but theres nothing more must admit its a mystery but one day it will be solved !!!

What's really needed is the original marriage certs showing his real signatures on both.

Is there  chance that yoy might get the originals, Rommilly?

One of the problems with signatures at that time is that everyone was taught copperplate handwriting at school.

However, it’s something that I could pursue… I already have the original Marriage Certificate for William James Wilson and Margaret Rees, and I could order a PDF of the one for Richard Kean and Mary Ann Young.

I’ve been looking to see if Richard Kean senior, 1832 - 1894 left a Will, but can’t find anything.
