I think his marriage shows as you mentioned but not in Kincardine but Perthshire (Tulliallan). They are so close together and likely linked when searching with boundary changes etc.

I cannot see a death for spouse in Scotland.

There is a possible listing 2002-8 here www.192.com/atoz/people/stoddart/john/2/ in Clackmannshire.

Looking at the photo of the stone here http://scottishwargraves.phpbbweb.com/scottishwargraves-ftopic91-0-asc-75.html it seems to have been arranged by the children of the school where he was a janitor.

The last photo has Stxxxx (photobucket logo) Scholars, xxxxxxx School.

If no family were to be traced, if we could figure out the school, I wonder if the current generation would be interested in attending the ceremony?

Thank you Monica and Rosinish for your input.  I have sent a message to the son (SS) of John Stoddart who died in 1911. Fingers crossed.

Was looking to see whether William and wife Christina had any children. Unless children were elsewhere on the night of the 1911 census, I can only see from the general index the following:

William Stoddart 39
Christina Stoddart 41

Rutherglen, ref 654/ 1/ 1
