The British Newspaper Archive or Findmypast. Don't be surprised if it didn't get into the papers, there were so many divorces after the war, the reason had to be really newsworthy for the Press to be interested.

Hi all again
I have managed to get Ethels second marriage certificate to Walter Bains and it states in condition as of marriage 'Formally the wife of Charles William Hanks from whom she attained divorce'. Does anyone know where I can go with this, I have checked newspapers on find my past but theres no details about their marriage or divorce.

Just came across this on the 1939 register. Ethel Hanks is currently married to Charles Hanks, but on the left hand side of the document are the letters RNT-M and the date of 23.2.1950. Ethel married Walter Bains on 4.2.1950 so its not a marriage date, can anyone hazard a guess on what they think the letters and the date could refer to. It cant be a divorce date as Ethel had already remarried. I cant upload a picture on here as it keeps sending back an error x Any help greatly appreciated.

The 23.2.1950 on the 1939 register would be the date that they did the amendment RNT is possibly the area code -RNT   Nottinghamshire   Worksop   MB

Just checked and the marriage was Worksop reg district  ;D

You can apply to HMCTS for confirmation of the date of divorce following a 10 year search, it costs £65 but in my opinion is not worth the A4 sheet of paper it is printed on unless you need it for legal purposes as you officially get no cause for the divorce.

Sometimes, but rarely, you get the name of a co-respondant.
