Edward Bellion c1808-1868
« on: Sunday 07 July 19 12:01 BST (UK) »
My Great, Great, Great, Great Grandfather Edward Bellion was born in St Helens c1808 and died in Liverpool in 1868. He was a Clock & Watchmaker in Liverpool and is included on the city's World Museum's Horology Database:-

http://www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/wml/collections/horology/database.aspx

I was looking for a C of E baptism record for him for some years without any luck. It now appears he was raised catholic as he was buried in a catholic section in Anfield Cemetery, his wife was buried in a C of E section. He appears to have moved to Liverpool at an early age. He may be the son of a Charles Bellion who was apprenticed to Matthew Tootell 13 Dec 1791 Clock Maker at Hardshaw Within Windle.

There is a marriage of a William Bellion, clockmaker to Ellen Oakes at St Paul's Church Liverpool in 1838. The father was Charles Bellion Clockmaker. Edward Bellion married Mary Oakes so it looks like two brothers married two sisters. Samuel Oakes was the father of the two sisters. This William Bellion moved to Salford and was an optician. There was a William Bannion baptised at St Peter RC Liverpool in 1818, parents Charles and Sarah that might actually be him under a misheard surname.

The parents of Edward and William appear to be:-

Marriage: 9 Jan 1803 All Saints, Rainford, Lancashire, England
Charles Bellyan - Clockmaker Bachelor Of this Parish
Sarah Sorrelberry - (X), Spinster Of this Parish
Witness: Ralph Rhoden; Peter Birchall
Married by Banns by: Mathew Robinson Minister
Notes: Groom signs surname as 'Bielleuen'
Register: Marriages 1793 - 1812, Page 79, Entry 147

Gore's Directory of Liverpool have the following:-

1816 Bellion Charles, watch maker, 26, Skelhorne Street
1818 Bellion Charles, clock maker, 26, Skelhorne Street

There are various Bellions connected to the Liverpool area including a Walter Uriah Bellion, watchmaker. I'm more interested in any more about Charles Bellion and Sarah Sorrelberry and any catholic records for this family in the St Helens area.

There's also this burial in Everton in 1832 (in the non-parochial registers):

23 March 1832:  Sarah Bellion age 50 ( from decline), abode New Milk Street

Thank you both.

Looking at the 1841 census family Woolfall Court was in Derby Street in the Whitechapel area not Leeds Street as I first thought.
