Thomas and Sarah LAISTER
« on: Wednesday 17 August 05 06:09 BST (UK) »
Hello, I was looking for a hit of help with one of my 'brickwalls'.

Thomas Laister married Sarah [] on 18 Jan 1824 presumably in Lincolnshire somewhere.  They lived in Lincolnshire and had 5 children:
Henry born 6 Apr 1826
Emma Kezia Laister born 7 Feb 1828
Elizabeth Laister born 15 Feb 1830
Sarah Ann Laister born 10 Oct 1836
Edwin John Laister born 14 Apr 1840

This part of my family tree was researched by my uncle who didn't mark down his sources, unfortunately.  He has since died and I don't know what happened to his records.

Thomas and Sarah don't appear in the 1881 census so I assume they died before this.  Could someone help with with census look ups for this family for 1841, 51, 61, 71.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Wow that was fast!

Thank you very much - this gives me much more to work with.

Its interesting that the wife comes from Attercliffe Yorks, as this is where her daugher Emma was born.  She must have gone home for that birth.

Here is my rootsweb data so far - I'll update it after I've got all this information in place:

Cheers and thanks

Leonie, :)

I am going to post the 1871 for Henry. Another son William has turned up. He must have been staying elsewhere in 1861. I will have another look and see if I can find him.

Very interesting!

Emma Laister married someone with the surname 'Couch' but I haven't been able to trace it any further, beyond that they had a daughter, Emily.

If I could find an Emma K Couch in the 1841 or 1861 census that would fill in a big gap in my tree!

BTW - George Albert is born in 'Aby, Lincolnshire, England' according to the 1861 census.  Is 'Aby" short for something?

Leonie,

I don't have the earlier censuses but I'm sure someone will be able to help you with earlier lookups.

Here's Edwin in 1871.

Rotherham  Yorkshire

Westgate    5 Westfield ( Villas?)

Edwin Jno Laister,, Head, mar, 30, Brewers Clerk, Burringham Lincs
Annie, wife, 31, Norton Derbyshire
Frank, son, 3, Rotherham Yorks
Herbert, son, 1, Rotherham Yorks

RG10/4702
Folio: 27
Page: 47

Leonie,

I looked for Edwins marriage when I was having a bit of difficulty finding him. On the same page is Emma Kezia Couch! I thought for a second he had married his sister! ;D Do you know if Emma married twice?

I expect you know that Edwin married Ann Gillott and Henry married Mary Ann Couch.

Do you know if Thomas & Sarah Laister died before 1871?
